トリチウムの可愛いマスコットキャラクターがボツになった件について、
イギリスの新聞the Guardianに詳しく書かれていたので、ざっくり紹介します。

Japan’s Reconstruction Agency is changing the design of a mascot character of “tritium”.
（復興庁は、トリチウムのマスコットキャラクターのデザインを変えることにしました）


“Tritium” is a radioactive hydrogen isotope that is to be released into the sea
from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
（トリチウムは、福島第一原発から処理水にして海に放出する予定の放射性物質です）


The agency created the mascot because it is easy to understand the safety of treated water.
（復興庁は処理水の安全性を説明するために、マスコットを作り出したのですが…）

The move immediately came under fire on social media with many claiming
that tritium should not be disguised as a cute character.
（このマスコットは「トリチウムを可愛いキャラクターで表現すべきでない」と
ネットで多くの人に批判されました）
